Tit-For-Baptism of the Day: Causing a stir online today is a new website that invites users to posthumously convert Mormons to homosexuality.
The single-serving site is a rather candid knock at the common Mormon practice known as “vicarious baptism” or “proxy baptism,” which involves the baptizing of a living person on behalf of someone who has passed on.
LDS Church members have received significant criticism in the past for attempting to baptize deceased individuals who belonged to a different faith in life. Of particular contention are conversion ceremonies conducted on behalf of Holocaust victims.
Earlier this month the church was forced to apologize to the family of noted Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal, whose parents, it was revealed, had been baptized by proxy in January. Yesterday, a similar story involving iconic Holocaust victim Anne Frank appeared in the media.
The Church has since released a statement vowing to discipline “individual abusers” of the the controversial practice.

I now baptize thee gay!

Breaking J.K. Rowling News of the Day: News from the industry vine this morning is that J.K. Rowling has officially signed a book deal with Little, Brown, and will soon be releasing her highly anticipated Harry Potter follow up.
No word yet on title, plot, or publication date, but word is that the book’s target audience will be adults.
“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series,” said the author in a press release.

The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.

[galleycat.]

I can’t wait!!! Super excited, thanks jkr!!!

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (Acappella)

thedailywhat:

In Memoriam of the Day: A striking reminder of the incomparable talent we lost today: The isolated vocal track off of Whitney Houston’s ”How Will I Know.”

[jakefogelnest.]

This is how I want to remember Whitney. As an amazingly talented singer!

Swan Song of the Day: Whitney Houston’s final performance took place Thursday night at R&B recording artist Kelly Price’s pre-Grammy party in Hollywood.

The late singer stepped on stage at Tru Hollywood to join Price in performing a cover of the gospel standard “Yes, Jesus Loves Me.”

Watch the duet above.

Below: Widely considered one of Houston’s most memorable performances: Singing the national anthem at Super bowl XXV.

[huffpo / tvline.]

RIP dear Whitney.
